About Dr. Renee Hartman
Background
I am a Licensed Psychologist and I practice in the Seattle/Bellevue Washington area. I have worked in a variety of settings that include mental health centers, schools, and of course, private practice. I am excited and enjoy my work! I have specialized training in working with children, teens, families, and adults. Life can be difficult and people do suffer. However, I have always been curious by people’s resiliency and great capabilities to flourish. There is so much power when positive change develops in individuals, teens, children, and families!
Theoretical Orientation
I like to think of myself as a ‘science-based’ practitioner. In other words, the strategies I use with people are approaches that carry a weight of research behind them. I work hard to use strategies and teach methods that work! Of course, one method won’t fit with every person, so I collaborate with my clients to find what does. Often this means, I am coach, a teacher, and even an investigator. I generally use Cognitive-Behavioral strategies to work with my clients. This means that we explore relationships between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I also work quite heavily with families so this means I use a Family Systems approach – often our thoughts, feelings, and actions can be influenced by family interactions.
