Individual Counseling - Dale Hartman
I am a caring, accepting, and interactive therapist who helps give structure and direction in the counseling process. I take each person’s difficulties and problems seriously, but I also have a good sense of humor and often laugh with my clients as we sort through problems that seem so overwhelming and impossible at first. My approach to therapy has evolved over time from focusing mostly on past childhood/family of origin issues to focusing on present thoughts, feelings, beliefs and how a person is functioning in his current relationships and responsibilities. In this way, I generally use cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal approaches that are solution focused. The first part of therapy is to clarify needs, goals, and expectations. I recognize that a person’s past plays a major role in how we view the world and how we view ourselves. I also recognize that change happens in the present as we face our fears, take responsibility for our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and move towards what we value and what gives purpose and meaning.
